| Player Park, the ex-class A pitcher, is now a team captain, whose team is ranked the lowest. The players are superior but not solidarity. One day, the club give the coach and Park who is thinking about a move, the unilateral notice to use the ball park only 4 days a week to open the stadium for a high school baseball team that do not have a ball park. The morale of the players falls further and Park who went in protest against this is told that the baseball team in a danger of going bankrupt. The newly established high school baseball team by the club reminds him of his old days as a high school boy, so that he volunteers to be a coach for them. Choi was a baseball player until the middle school but stopped the baseball because his parents didn't want him to be a baseball player. He applies for the team without noticing to his parents. Mr. Park senses a talent from Choi and starts to teach him to be a pitcher. Captain Park suggests to the pro team to play with the high school boys on Fridays only and to be mentors after showing the enthusiastic efforts of the students. And every Friday he raises the high school baseball team and the skills were largely developed. Park realizes that the pro team feels the solidarity too and the grade is rising as much as the high school team developed. The captain Park encourages the high school team to go to Bonghwanggi tournament semifinals, and Choi who is Park's mentee exerts the power pitching like a pro. The result of the first appearances in Bongwhanggi tournament is the second place. The pro players feel the joy and the sense of accomplishment who led the high school team to the second place. It is helpful to the pro team too. |
전직 A급 투수였으나 부상으로 포수에 머물고 있는 팀 주장 박 선수가 소속된 올해 꼴찌의 프로야구팀. 선수들 기량은 우수하나 단결하지 못하여 선수 이적을 고민하고 있던 박 주장과 김 감독은 구단측으로부터 야구장이 없는 신설 고교야구팀에 3일간 운동장을 개방하고 현 선수들은 4일만 전용구장을 활용하라는 일방적인 통보를 받는다. 선수들 사기는 더욱 떨어지고 이 문제로 항의를 하러 간 박 선수는 전용구장 단장실에서 구단이 존폐위기에 있다는 말을 듣고 허탈하게 내려온다. 구장에서 새로 신설된 고교야구팀의 연습장면을 보고 자신의 고교선수시절을 떠 올리며 기분전환 겸 이들의 코치를 자청한다. 중학교까지 야구부 선발타자로 활동했지만 부모의 반대로 야구를 접은 최 선수는 학교에 야구부가 신설되어 부모 몰래 지원하게 되고, 박 주장은 최 선수에게서 천부적인 투수감각을 읽고 투수로 키우기 시작한다. 박 주장이 팀원들에게 학생들의 열정적인 모습과 노력을 이야기하고 금요일 하루만 함께 연습해 줄 것을 제안하여 프로 팀원 모두가 멘토가 되어 금요일은 함께 연습하는 날로 정하여 신설 고교야구팀을 연습시켜 실력이 크게 발전한다. 고교팀의 실력이 발전 할수록 팀의 단결도 좋아지고 성적도 상승함을 알게 된 박 주장은 다음해 봉황기 4강을 목표로 팀과 고교선수들을 독려하고, 박 주장의 멘티인 최 선수는 경기에서 프로선수와 견줄 수 있는 투구력을 발휘한다. 신설 고교야구팀의 봉황기 첫 출전을 준우승으로 이끈 멘토들은 자신들의 재능 나눔이 아이들에게 큰 희망과 꿈을 준 것에 대한 기쁨과 성취감이 선수생활에도 큰 도움이 되고 자극이 되었음을 느낀다.
